The 2019 Breeders' Cup® has come and gone, but not without making its mark on the thoroughbred racing landscape.

World Champions were crowned in several divisions and the crowd at Santa Anita Park was treated to two days of the best competition on the planet.

Before we head into 2020 and the dawn of a new decade in the sport, let’s look back at the 2019 World Championships of Thoroughbred racing.

2019 Breeders' Cup Classic Recap

The main event of the weekend took place on Saturday afternoon. After a weekend full of heart-stopping races, the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic took the main stage at Santa Anita Park.

Vino Rosso took the headlines by crossing the finish line first and being named World Champion in the finale of the 2019 season. The four-year old finished 4-1/4 lengths ahead of  second placed McKinzie, who came into the race as the 5-2 favorite.

The win marks the first Classic victory for trainer Todd Pletcher, who entrusted jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. to lead Vino Rosso to victory on Saturday.
